Hampstead, London
About This Project
A substantial ground floor reconfiguration and rear extension of a period property in Hampstead, blending heritage character with contemporary living. The project required significant structural alterations including steel beam installation and new brickwork to open up the ground floor layout, with a new rear extension featuring full-height slim-profile aluminium sliding doors connecting the interior to the garden. Original Victorian details were carefully preserved throughout, including arched doorways, turned timber balusters, and a sweeping handrail staircase, while new bespoke arched door frames were crafted to match the existing period joinery. The finished living space features exposed London stock brick feature walls, warm oak-effect flooring, industrial-style pendant lighting, and a built-in rustic timber dresser with integrated wet bar. Recessed downlights and a clean, neutral palette create a bright, open-plan ground floor, while glazed French doors with traditional glazing bars maintain the property's period charm.
